The Cypress Falls Chamber Choir won their fourth championship at the Keemah event. Comprising over a hundred different choirs from around the state, each school selects three pieces to perform at the event. The preparation required intense practice daily, but ultimately paid off as Cypress Falls was victorious once again.
Oscar Ramirez, senior at Cypress Falls and secretary of Cypress Falls Choir expressed his perspective on the entire experience; reminiscing on the competition. Ramirez has been a part of choir for his entire high school journey, from freshman to senior year.
“There was a moment in this one song called ‘Blogodop,’ it was on a catchy part and it got my whole body with my choir doing the same too,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez has not only been an integral part of the choir team, he has grown alongside the entirety of the program; making key friends with dozens of individuals.
“Cy Falls Choir is a big source of how I met a lot of people since my freshman year and those people will forever be my family,” Ramirez said.
But it’s not just about the source of friendship, the main motivation behind Ramirez’s drive for choir comes from the yearning for improvement.
“The thing that motivates me to stay committed is the growth of my voice from each year,” Ramirez said.
For other’s, it got them out of their comfort zone, building a sense of community in such a meaningful activity.
Alexander Mandi, senior at Cypress Falls and Public Relations Officer of Cypress Falls Choir remarked on his growth since originally joining the program; attributing to both the environment and the friendships made throughout. Alexander Mandi has not only been a positive influence on the team; he has been a part of the decision making since his junior year when he became a part of the officer team.
“It made me part of a community and got me out of my shell,” Mandi said. “My friends are the ones keeping me committed.”
Not only has Cypress Falls’ choir been a cornerstone of the school’s identity, they represent a pillar in dozens of student’s talents and efforts. Through winning things such as the Kemah competition, they not only prove their commitment to improving, but also cement themselves as a powerhouse of a program.
