Bracket finalized for Cypress Hoops Invitational

Cypress Ranch High School junior Elish Benjamin (with ball) and the Mustangs will face Beaumont Ozen in the first round of the Cypress Hoops Invitational on Dec. 11 at 4:30 p.m. at Cypress Ridge High School.

Dec. 1, 2014—CFISD basketball coaches have released the finalized bracket for the fifth annual Cypress Hoops Invitational, to be held Dec. 11-13 at three CFISD high schools and the Berry Center.

The three-day, 24-team tournament will be underwritten by North Cypress Medical Center Hospital. Games will be played at the following locations:

  • Cypress Springs High School (7909 Fry Road);
  • Cypress Ridge High School (7900 N. Eldridge Parkway);
  • Cypress Falls High School (9811 Huffmeister Road); and
  • the Berry Center arena (8877 Barker Cypress Road – entrance 2).

4:30 p.m.

  • Spring High School vs. Killeen Shoemaker, Cypress Falls gym 1;
  • Cypress Lakes vs. Texas City, Cypress Falls gym 2;
  • Cypress Springs vs. Alief Elsik, Cypress Springs gym 1;
  • San Antonio Clemens vs. Cypress Creek, Cypress Springs gym 2;
  • Beaumont Ozen vs. Cypress Ranch, Cypress Ridge gym 1; and
  • South Grand Prairie vs. George Ranch, Cypress Ridge gym 2.

6 p.m.

  • Cypress Falls vs. Summer Creek, Cypress Falls gym 1;
  • Dallas Kimball vs. Jersey Village, Cypress Falls gym 2;
  • Cypress Woods vs. Alief Hastings, Cypress Springs gym 1;
  • Harker Heights vs. Langham Creek, Cypress Springs gym 2;
  • Cypress Ridge vs. Galena Park North Shore, Cypress Ridge gym 1; and
  • Cy-Fair vs. Nimitz, Cypress Ridge gym 2.

Thursday’s winners will play throughout the day on Friday, Dec. 12 at the Berry Center.

New to the tournament this year will be family fun activities including face painting, balloon animals and much more. Northwest Dodge will sponsor a chance to win a car during the championship game on Dec. 13.

Proceeds from the Cypress Hoops Invitational benefit the CFEF, which raises money for student scholarships and staff development grants. The fourth annual tournament raised $18,750.02 as Galena Park North Shore defeated Plano West High School, 62-58, in overtime to win the championship.

Tickets will be sold at the gate for $2 (students) and $3 (adults), with a family fun pass granting access to all games for $8.

Senior Jhealan Wesley (15) and the Cypress Woods Wildcats will face Alief Hastings in round one of the Cypress Hoops Invitational on Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at Cypress Springs High School.


Senior Trelen Norton (2) and the Langham Creek Lobos will meet Killeen Harker Heights in the first round of the Cypress Hoops Invitational on Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at Cypress Springs High School.
