Oct. 28, 2014—The Cy-Fair and Cypress Falls high school marching bands were selected among four groups to advance to the UIL State Marching Contest on Nov. 4 in San Antonio, after placing in the top four of the finals at the UIL Area E Marching Contest, held Oct. 25 at the Berry Center.

Cy-Fair and Cypress Falls qualified for the state competition along with Clements and Austin high schools from Fort Bend ISD.

“Our students are very excited to earn the right to compete for the Class 6A marching band state championship,” said Cy-Fair band director Mark Veenstra. “This is the second consecutive state marching championship that the Cy-Fair High School marching band has attended, and the first time in school history that we’ve been selected twice in a row.”

“We are extremely proud and honored to represent our school and community at one of the most elite marching band competitions in the nation,” said Cypress Falls band director Shawn McAnear. “The band students have spent countless hours pouring their heart and soul into our show, and to see their excitement and sense of pride after the advancement announcement makes the long hours of rehearsal worth every minute.”

Of the eight CFISD schools that qualified for the Area Marching Contest, Langham Creek and Cypress Creek high schools also advanced to the finals—which narrowed the field from 20 to 10 bands.

The other CFISD bands qualifying for Area were from Cypress Ranch, Cypress Ridge, Cypress Woods and Jersey Village high schools.

The State Marching Contest will be held on Nov. 4 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Ticket information and schedules are available on the UIL Music website.
