April 13, 2016—As part of their 20-year reunion celebrations, members of the 1996 Cypress Falls baseball team gathered with their families before the varsity game against Langham Creek High School on April 1 to be honored.
The class of 1996 was the first class to attend Cypress Falls all four years. The baseball team that year was the first varsity playoff team for the school.
“You got to see the infancy of Cy Falls, to create a school from scratch, to be the first varsity team and the first varsity playoff team—I feel prideful for that,” Curtis Lea, a 1996 team member, said.
After being introduced, alumni members were greeted by the current varsity lineup along the third-base line. Alumni were impressed with the changes.

“Things have been upgraded quite a bit. There were loose cows on the field—things have changed a lot,” Lea said.
The alumni were given “Beat Langham” shirts to acknowledge the rivalry they started with Langham Creek 20 years ago.
“We grew as a four-year group, starting as freshmen in 1992,” Brian Kratky, another 1996 team member, said. “We were kind of like family. That’s what made our success more fun.”
For some the trip back to the field was not far. Kratky is an assistant principal at Cypress Falls.
“Getting to come back as an administrator is fun for me because I’ve gotten a chance to see Cy Falls from both sides,” Kratky said.
For others, the game was a rare treat.
“Unfortunately, we’re not very close so we don’t get a chance to come back,” alumni Stuart Holmes said.
Alumni players stayed throughout the game and chatted with each other outside of the dugout.
“It was fun to get together and relive some of those memories that Friday night versus Langham,” Kratky said.
