Nov. 14, 2014—Cypress Falls High School senior defensive tackle Du’Vonta Lampkin is one of four finalists for the Inaugural 2014 Greater Houston High School Rotary Lombardi Award.

The award is presented in conjunction with the Rotary Lombardi Award, presented annually since 1970 to the nation’s top college football lineman. The award honors the memory of Vince Lombardi, legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers.

The inaugural high school finalists are:

  • Du’Vonta Lampkin, defensive tackle, Cypress Falls;
  • Toby Weathersby, offensive lineman, Westfield High School;
  • Cameron Townsend, linebacker, Ridge Point High School; and
  • Kingsley KeKe, defensive end, George Ranch High School.

Finalists were chosen based on outstanding performance and ability, as well as personal qualities that best exemplify the legacy of Vince Lombardi. Voters consisted of Matt Malatesta with Vype Magazine, Corey Roepken from, John Kelly with Fox Sports Southwest and Angel Verdejo from the Houston Chronicle.

The 2014 winner will be announced at the Rotary Lombardi Award Presentation on Dec. 10 at Bayou Music Center in downtown Houston. The ceremony will be broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest.

The 6-foot-3, 291-pound Lampkin recorded 80 tackles (49 solo), 16 sacks, 6 forced fumbles and 38 tackles for loss in a spectacular 2014 season for the Golden Eagles. His 16 sacks and 38 tackles for loss were both school records for Cypress Falls, which opened in 1992. He is committed to play football for the University of Texas this fall.

“I am really proud of Du’Vonta and all the work he has put into his senior year,” said Cypress Falls head coach Kirk Eaton. “I think it shows since he has been named a finalist for the High School Lombardi Award.”
