Eight Bands Earn First Division Ratings at Region 27 Competition

Oct. 22, 2014—Eight CFISD marching bands earned first division ratings in the UIL Region 27 Marching Band Competition on Oct. 18 at the Berry Center to advance to the Area E competition, set for Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress Road).

The following marching bands emerged from the 21-school competition, hosted by Jersey Village High School and band director Brett Nelson:

  • Cy-Fair, Cypress Creek, Cypress Falls, Cypress Ranch, Cypress Ridge, Cypress Woods, Jersey Village and Langham Creek.

Dr. Mark Henry, superintendent of schools, attended the daylong competition and came away impressed by CFISD’s performances.

“It was one of those days that makes me so proud to be a superintendent in CFISD,” Dr. Henry said. “Our students and staff have spent hundreds of hours since the summer to put on outstanding performances. Congratulations and thanks to all who made Saturday a remarkable day!”

Area qualifiers will compete with marching bands from Katy and Fort Bend school districts on Saturday to determine who will advance to the UIL State Marching Contest, set for Nov. 4 in San Antonio.

The finals will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m., and results will be announced at approximately 10 p.m.

Admission is $5 per person for the entire day. Children 12 and under will be admitted free of charge. The Super Senior Card will be honored at the gate. The Super Senior Card is available to CFISD taxpayers living in the district who are 60 years or older, to show appreciation for their ongoing support for the district.


The Jersey Village High School band performs in the Region 27 Marching Band Competition. The Falcon band qualified for the Area E Marching Contest on Oct. 25.


Cypress Lakes High School performs in the Region 27 Marching Band Competition.


The Cypress Springs High School marching band plays for the judges and crowd at the Region 27 Marching Band Competition.


The Cypress Ranch High School marching band advanced to the Area E Marching Contest, set for Oct. 25 at the Berry Center.
