Journalism students earn awards at Communications Workshop

July 25, 2014—Approximately 90 students from nine CFISD high schools attended the Balfour High School Communications Workshop, held July 18-21 at Texas A&M University. Several CFISD students earned workshop competition awards.

Featuring top journalism instructors from around the country, the workshop taught students the latest trends and skills in yearbook, newspaper, photography, multimedia and video editing.

The following schools and students earned awards at the workshop:

Cy-Fair High School

  • Natalie Berry, Harper Neitzey and Will Davis — first place, Newsmagazine category;
  • John Sanchez — Excellence in Writing award; and
  • Julia Ryza — Excellence in Writing award.

Cypress Creek High School

  • Miranda Duncan – Excellence in Writing: Feature Writing;
  • Jessica Bott – Excellence in Writing: News Writing;
  • Maci Smith – Excellence in Writing: Personal Column;
  • Rosalind Williamson – Excellence in Writing: Editorial Writing; and
  • Caline Forward – Top award for writing: Personal Column.

Cypress Falls High School

  • Sara Smith – Yearbook Excellence award: Editorial Leadership.

Cypress Lakes High School

  • Navina Moya – Third place, photography competition (images of two or more people).

Cypress Woods High School

  • Newspaper staff – first place, Back to School issue.

Jersey Village High School

  • Falcon yearbook staff – Marketing Excellence award.
