What is ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)?

An aptitude test that identifies skill strengths. It includes an interest inventory that highlights work-related interest areas. The results can be used to guide career exploration.

Participation does not commit you to the military in any way.

Helps you identify potentially satisfying careers based on your skills and interest.

Discover all the different ways to get to your dream job.

The ASVAB CEP is a great opportunity for those who are not sure about what they want to do after they finish high school.

When: The test will be offered during the Fall semester. The exact test date will be announced next school year.

Who is eligible to test: Cy-Falls Juniors and Seniors
Requirements to test on campus:
Due to the requirements to pre-order tests and receive parent permission, only the students who signed up during their Junior/Senior Fall Conferences will be allowed to participate. Please contact Bryan Barron for more information.

About the test:
Every examinee is given the same items. In order to measure ability accurately across all examinees, the P&P-ASVAB includes items that range from very easy to very hard.
The test is multiple choice and consists of eight subtests:

SAT/ACT
The SAT and ACT are standardized tests used for college admissions and career training programs. Both are designed to assess a student's readiness for college and are accepted by most U.S. colleges and universities. However, they may not be necessary for some trade-schools.

The SAT:

Includes a Reading and Writing Section and a Math Section.

The test is online only. You must bring a charged device to the testing location.

Please view the SAT website for test dates, to register, to access test prep materials, or for any additional questions.

The ACT:

Includes English, Math, Reading, and Science sections, plus an optional Writing test.
-
The test is offered online or on paper, depending on which test you register for.

The Science section is now optional for online versions only. Paper versions are expected to offer the Science section as optional in September 2025.

Students typically choose which test to take based on their strengths, but most colleges accept scores from either test. Please check with the college, university, or trade school program you are interested in to see what test is recommended (if any) and what scores are recommended for admission.
The SAT and ACT are usually taken during the Junior or Senior year of High School.

All students who are classified as a Junior will automatically be registered to test.

PSAT
What is the PSAT?

The PSAT is the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Includes a Reading and Writing Section and a Math Section.

The scores can give you an idea of your strengths and areas of improvement needed to be successful on the SAT.

The scores can also qualify you for the National Merit Scholarship Program and other scholarships.

Who is eligible to test: Cy Falls Sophomores
